The property is a 2 bedroom ground floor apartment set within a 6-storey imposing Victorian terrace house in Earls Court. Although the apartment has amazing ceiling height, its layout is symptomatic of the brutal conversion that is prevalent in the mid 20th century intensification of London housing. The original layout was contorted resulting in a long and narrow hallway that is hardly usable, and a confined kitchen that serves as an anteroom to the living room.

We opened up the corridor with recessed fire doors to direct flow and daylight from the bright and airy living room to the widened hallway which is now integrated with storage and seating to maximise functionality. The openness of the living room is further accentuated by the semi-open plan kitchen that is fully glazed to separate its function from the main space.

The ceiling and floor voids were acoustically treated reduce inter-apartment noise transmissions, and the flooring levelled with the intricate Versailles oak parquet to anchor the modernised interiors within their period shell.
