The brief was to remodel, maximise floor areas, and create a highly saleable family home that exemplifies contemporary living whilst preserving the historic charms of the original Edwardian house.
With an original floor area of 1630sqf, we added a further 620sqf to create a generous 4 bedroom family home with a ground floor layout that embodies the broken-plan concept. We redesigned the ground floor as a series of interconnected spaces, each distinctly zoned for different activities. Thoughtful planning of circulations, furniture placement, and openings encourages seamless movement and interaction across the zones.
The decked garden flows out from the open living spaces of the ground floor through a large glazed rear opening framed by exposed steelwork that also supports the weight of the outrigger above. Unabashedly expressed in black intumescent paint, the steelwork detailing and the bare finish of the concrete surfaces bring the modern interiors together with the original Edwardian features to reveal the industrial undertone of the period.
